a. Shelter & Support Program

At any one time, the shelter houses 65-70 people from around the world. Families stay for an average of 6-12 weeks and have access to a full range of resettlement and support programs.

The resettlement programs are supported by a diverse team of culturally sensitive staff, volunteers, church and community groups.  CRWC collaborates with donors, health and educational professionals, to ensure the delivery of a timely, sensitive, and empowering array of services for refugee families.

Settlement Services

  • Basic needs assessment upon arrival to the shelter and referrals for further follow up
  • Assistance accessing basic services such as health care, education, ESL, banking
  • Help to make refugee claims
  • Housing orientations and support in the housing search process
  • Educational workshops

Support Services

The Centre also offers a wide range of support services:

  • New back pack for each child’s first day of school
  • Gifts-in-kind (clothing, personal care items)
  • Advocacy
  • Participation in residents, family and childrens meetings
  • Childrens playrooms
  • Summer Camp programs
  • Special events – trips, holiday celebrations, March break activities
  • In-house Computer lab
